Empire State Building
Art Print
One of the reasons for always carrying a camera (or trying to remember) is you never know when the sky or other conditions create a picture opportunity.
The Empire State Building was built as far south of midtown as was possible before the rock which supports the tall buildings above 34th Street heads down to 600 feet below the surface until Wall Street area. This makes the Empire State Building the most visible building in Manhattan, and accordingly, the most photographed.
The Empire State Building went up in about a year's time. Everyone was going to show had work was going to rescue the country from depression. Of course, it didn't. Moreover, it was not until the 1950's that the building was fully occupied.
The Empire State Building was constructed before air conditioning and you'll notice the high ceiling and tall windows for light and air flow.
If you are visiting NYC, this is still the best place to see the panoramic views. - Photographer Richard Pearlman
